Dr. Sonia Mehta
She retired as Chief Architect, Central Public Works Department (CPWD), Government of India, in 2021 after completing about 30 years of eventful professional service in the government. In the initial years of her career, she worked in private sector with eminent firms like Bose Brothers, New Delhi and Planners Group, New Delhi. A graduate of CCA, Chandigarh (1982), she did her PhD in 2012 from CEPT university, Ahmedabad in the field of Barrier Free Built Environment.
In her long career spanning about 40 years, she has worked on practically every kind of project, ranging from residential housing complexes, offices, hospitals, educational institutes, airports, sports complexes to heritage conservation. She has been associated with some well known Government projects in NCR, Mumbai and Ahmedabad. Her key areas of interest are Barrier free built environment, Adaptive reuse of heritage buildings, Street Art, various design approaches like ‘Biophilic Designs’, Neuro Architecture and Vernacular Architecture
Widely travelled across the globe, Dr. Mehta has a keen eye for details. She is an affable and jovial person, always willing to guide team mates. Her firm belief which she practices in her life is that every problem has a solution.
Ar. Anjali Sagar
Anjali Sagar identifies herself as an architect by profession, academician by choice, photographer by inspiration and a philanthropist by heart.She is an alumnus of Chandigarh College of Architecture and has mentored budding architects in various capacities in premier architectural institutions of India – School of Planning and Architecture, Delhi, Sir JJ School of Architecture, Mumbai and Chandigarh College of Architecture, Chandigarh.
Her keen interest in research topics like “role of self-help and cultural sensitivity in settlement process of marginal communities”; “critical analysis of Chandigarh’s performance in respect to urban principles” and “importance of revitalization and retrofitting in time worn buildings” makes her strive consistently to make society observant and sensitive towards their surroundings. She co-founded a public service initiative that would promote environmental leadership and motivate individuals to become responsible for environmentally balanced solutions in their built habitat.
She has designed residences, auditoriums, clubs, offices, schools and colleges in different capabilities. After travelling widely across the world for many years, she returned to Chandigarh to strengthen her identity in her hometown .

Bela Syal, BArch, MEDes, MBA, graduated from the Chandigarh College of Architecture, in 1982. In 1983, Bela moved to Canada to pursue her graduate studies at the University of Calgary, specializing in Urban and Regional Planning. Since graduating, Bela has been in private practice as an urban planner in land development and provides sustainable planning and strategic advisory consulting services. She is extremely passionate about sustainable development.
Bela has been an affiliated guest lecturer at the University of Calgary and a member of Richard Parker Professorship Advisory Council and Haskayne School of Business Management Advisory Committee.
